230909 2004-04-21 05:32:00 I run Knoppix 3.3

I downloaded a half-lide dedicated server file, and followed every instruction to install it, but struck this error.

It came as a .bin file, and i was told to use the chmod thing to make it executable:

chmod a+x hlds_l_1120_full.bin

That appeared to work fine (ie went to next console line with no complaints), then i did this:

./hlds_l+_1120_full.bin

It came up with the programs EULA, and upon saying "yes", it came up with the above error. It went down like this:

Enter 'yes' to accept this agreement, 'no' to decline: yes
extracting /usr/steam/hlds_l_1120_full.tgz...
hlds_l_1120_full.bin: error extracting payload, No such file or directory
root@server:/hlds#

I recently reinstalled linux, and before hand the same instructions worked.

Also, in KPackage, whenever i try to update something or install it it says "exec failed: No such file or directory" ... ?

New to linux, please help!

230910 2004-04-21 05:44:00 Ahh... So from the sounds of things it _is_ running Live off the CD-Rom...

There ARE limitations... If you like Linux then Install it.

Either that or run the file as root.

230911 2004-04-21 06:25:00 No it's running off the hard drive. I ran knx-hdinstall (twice, actually), and there's no cd in the drive... Growly (6)
230912 2004-04-21 06:25:00 Oh and yeah, i tried Root console, and i was logged in as root the whole time :-s

cheers though

230913 2004-04-21 06:43:00 Next stop: Google

Did you try searching for:
error extracting payload, No such file directory

You get:
www.linuxquestions.org
and:
www.linuxquestions.org

So you need to make the directory manually and chmod 777 /usr/steam or whereever the directory is.
