1360299 2013-11-20 04:39:00 I have just reformatted my Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 64bit 500 GB hdd about a week ago now its showing as its nearly full, I don't want to reformat again as I have enabled all the Windows updates.

Used space 439 gb
Free space 25.8 gfb
Local disc (C) 25.8 GB free of 465 GB
Local disc (C) Users (me) 19.8 GB Public 56.4 MB

I don't know if its something to do with an error message about low on memory, googled that got rid of error message but can't remember and I have run ccleaner and its deleted my history, if that makes sense.

1360300 2013-11-20 04:44:00 Why do you need to reformat Windows? If its full then wouldn't you be better off transferring your data to an external HD? Webdevguy (17166)
1360301 2013-11-20 04:54:00 Did you actually wipe all partitions first then install from fresh ?

If you did it that way you should have a small hidden partition of roughly 100MB, and windows itself including all updates roughly 20GB give or take a few. ?

What else is installed Eg: programs, data etc ? There is no way windows 7 on its own, along with the hardware Drivers and Windows updates are going to use most of the 500 GB drive.

Can you post a screen shot of the partitions -- in W7 click start type in computer management select it, under storage, click on Disk Management - when it loads how many partitions are showing.

To take a screen shot - with the disk management open click start, type in Snip open the snipping tool - take a screen shot of the open window - post it back here.

I enclose screen shot The reason for a format I tried windows 8 and I couldn't return to my previous window 7, Pretty sure I deleted all files an did a fresh installation of 7

My c drive consists of = Local disc (C) Users (me) 19.8 GB Public 56.4 MB

1360303 2013-11-20 05:55:00 Apart from Windows and its updates, what else is installed ? The partitions are reading as you would expect.

One way to make sure everything is gone is to delete all partitions, then when windows re-installs there is nothing left of the old OS/Programs data etc.

Edited:

Just curious: If you go into the C drive, is there a folder there called windows.old
wainuitech (129)
1360304 2013-11-20 06:14:00 No windows old! enclosed libraries

The libraries folders were playing up last night, and wouldn't show just the four icons on the left pane and they were wobbling so ran ccleaner and shut down and I have this problem since.

Has the drive been corrupted?

1360305 2013-11-20 07:26:00 Whats the other "Program files" (x86)? Lawrence (2987)
1360306 2013-11-20 07:28:00 Whats the other "Program files (x86)?

64 bit has a program files and program files (x86) folder. It's probably all the toshiba program installs that are taking up most of the space. If there are any trials of whatever, I would uninstall them

1360307 2013-11-20 07:34:00 Somethings not reading right, Cant put my finger on it, but its obviously got more on it than just a windows install, ( dropbox - Brother).

This question was not answered -

Apart from Windows and its updates, what else is installed ?

Try running chkdsk.

Open the "Computer" window
Right-click on the C drive
Select the "Tools" tab
In the Error-checking area, click <Check Now>.
Make sure Automatically fix file system Errors is ticked
Click Start.

It will pop up with a message saying it cant run and do you want to run it on next reboot - select yes, and reboot , it should start to run on next start.

It may or may not find anything, if something is reading wrong chkdsk may fix it.

If there are any trials of whatever, I would uninstall them If its a fresh install from a Windows DVD there wont be any, thats why I asked about the what partitions were there, if it were done from a factory install the hidden partitions should be showing.

1360308 2013-11-20 08:07:00 If chkdsk didn't do any good, lets see where all the usage actually is.

Download windirstat - windirstat.info ( installer is near bottom of page - Current installer (version 1.1.2)

Run it, once finished post back the results, ( screenshot) OR have a look yourself There will be large areas showing as well as large areas listed that show where data is.
