1339814 2013-05-06 00:58:00 My Simpson dryer has just started misbehaving (just what I need when it is pouring with rain outside :( ) It has started banging and rocking. It seems like something has become detached inside so the balance has all gone wrong. Anyone know what might be happening? (and no, it was not overloaded.) Tony (4941)
1339815 2013-05-06 00:59:00 I would suggest a drum bearing has collapsed or the bearing housing is detaching itself. Sometimes they are mounted on a different plane and the bearings have not got a modified bearing for the thrust
Pull it to bits and have a look.

1339816 2013-05-06 01:08:00 Pull it to bits and have a look. Are they easy to dismantle? Am I likely to get it apart and not be able to re-assemble it? Tony (4941)
1339817 2013-05-06 01:22:00 Most of them you can unscrew the back panel, and have a look. If its something broken or lose you should be able to see esp if its running with the panel off (unscrew the panel first then turn it on). wainuitech (129)
1339818 2013-05-06 01:23:00 Simpson could also be the bearings in the electric motor. prefect (6291)
1339819 2013-05-06 01:33:00 Simpson could also be the bearings in the electric motor. The imbalance seems too extreme to be electric motor bearings - but I could easily be wrong. It seemed to appear too suddenly - as though something had actually become unfastened. Ah well, I see what my job is this arvo - as if I didn't have enough else to do (sigh). Tony (4941)

1339821 2013-05-06 02:06:00 Well, I took the back off, and it looks like a plastic shaft that connects the drum to the rear panel has actually sheared - which may or may not be terminal. It also means I can't re-assemble it easily as the drum is now free floating and doesn't automatically match up with the back bearing. D'oh! Tony (4941)
1339822 2013-05-06 02:32:00 Our Simpson isn't like that. I had to take the back cover off once, there was something going clunk clunk when it was trying to work, it the Drum is mounted on brackets which house the drum support/mount, the only thing on the back panel is the Duct for the air to escape.

Mine had a almost broken Belt.

1339823 2013-05-06 05:21:00 I've just taken it in to be fixed. The people showed no surprise at what had happened, and it sounds like simple fix; just slightly more complicated than I'm prepared to tackle. Tony (4941)
