1339005 2013-04-30 00:39:00 Probably most here already know this but, just in case you don't and are still running XP, read this (www.advancedcomputers.co.nz) too find out what it means to you. Trev (427)
1339006 2013-04-30 01:21:00 To most with PC's that old it will actually mean nothing. :badpc::badpc:
They wont even notice.
Many old XP pc's Ive seen have stopped Win-updating long ago (due to various issues) .
For others it may just be the final push needed to finally buy a new PC (or goto Mac)

I still have a few customers running Win2000 & even Dos6 !!!

1339009 2013-04-30 03:02:00 I like XP for home but at work it is so much easier to administer 7.

EDIT: Solidworks 2013 wont install on XP. OS is not supported and bombs out. Oh well...

1339010 2013-04-30 03:52:00 The fact that XP has survived this long proves it's a good operating system. So why on earth did Microsoft think Windows 8 was a good idea?

I'm going more and more toward Linux, myself. I already use Xubuntu daily on one machine, and multi-boot on most of the others. Boots a lot faster than Windows, too.

Hopefully with the recent uptake of game developers supporting Linux I can increase my usage in the future. As much as I love Windows I have realised I would not be hugely sorry to see it go.

1339011 2013-04-30 04:05:00 Indeed, I'm hoping that Steam makes some headway in that area! All that's keeping me on Windows is DotA2. I play it, a LOT. Otherwise I'd be quite happy with Ubuntu. Apparently they're going back to the full Gnome desktop in the next release too?

EDIT: Apparently it was the 13.04 release: cdimage.ubuntu.com

Doubt it. If they actually get Mir running, and that's a big if, like KDE, GNOME have ignored Mir and are going for Wayland. Does not bode well for Ubuntu's ecosystem.

Also, whats wrong with running DotA2 with WINE?

1339013 2013-04-30 04:20:00 For the benefit of 1101, a lot of people using XP do not have old machines. Many still consider XP the best OS Microsoft have so far come up with, and have seen no good reason to waste money on upgrading to W7 or W8. However, the end of support for XP will no doubt mean some will now do so. But with an i5 computer I will not be buying a new machine just to run another OS. Richard (739)
1339014 2013-04-30 04:47:00 I went with win7 b/c it was given to me via e-academy. 32 bit xp is fantastic does everything i need and want. We will have two internet boxes still with xp here. No win8 yet. Nomad (952)
