1338938 2013-04-30 19:48:00 It doesn't always come down to bad eating and lack of exercise though, plenty of other factors may cause weight gain - my ex-girlfriend's epilepsy medication, for example.
These factors just mean you have to eat less to counter them.
Its calories in and calories out like a diesel engine on a train.

& its not just fatty foods, too much bread is just as bad as too much sugar (long term) .

Wheat is one big factor.

Millions $$ are spent by food technologists/psychologists to create addictive foods and while junk food would be the worst, so called health foods (e.g. breakfast cereals, whole grained breads, etc.) are also concocted so that you want to eat more and more.

Combine this with a lack of exercise and a lack of self discipline @ food consumption and it is easy to see why so many people are overweight.

1338942 2013-04-30 22:47:00 Its pretty pathetic when people argue against laws of energy. The fat in the body is stored for lean times however now there are no lean times and amount stored keeps increasing. You just need to do what nature intends that is lose the fat by not eating so much or working it off. Its not rocket science and there were no fat jap POWs. prefect (6291)

While I agree with you mostly there is reasons someone can become fat without "overeating". Certain medications do cause it and it's not just a case of eating less. Yes a change of diet may help but at the end of the day if they are still burning the same energy then they need to replace it. Btw I'm not fat, although I'm heading that way. I can only blame food and drink though.

You need to burn more energy, burning the same energy as your intake will not cause a weight loss. You just have to discipline yourself what you throw in your cake hole.Blaming medication, genetics, different metabolic rates is stupid.
And a lot of fat people are stupid as well.

1338945 2013-05-01 20:47:00 Prefect has it pretty much right. 'Stomach stapling' is the medical treatment for 'lack of self control' in over eating.
If all these other reasons put forward for being overweight were valid eg genetic makeup and metabolism, then stapling would not not work.
