That may be so, but that's why we have a Consumer Guarantees Act, and generally speaking you can expect to enjoy protection well past the stated warranty period.

Good facts, well documented, and a polite but firm approach can work wonders and full replacement (usually a significant upgrade too!) even when well out of warranty is not hard to achieve.

How about an entire car replaced when 12 months out of warranty? No threats required?

Second-hand car dealers rolled? All repairs carried out at no charge! I married the owner of that one. :D

At this very moment Mrs T is picking up a 12 month out of warranty no-charge repair from a major retailer.

First step is to empathise with the retailer and acknowledge that they didn't make it, and nor did their salesperson.

Cheers

Gotta feel sorry for the smaller retailers. Their margins are often pretty thin, not enough to cover CGA issues
And there is no guarentee that the retailer can send out of warranty goods back to the importer/distributor.

Ive had that myself, cust claiming CGA, distributor saying NO as distributor isnt bound buy the CGA.
- basically distributor said no return without ALL original packaging & manuals. Who keeps all the original packaging ??
