1339015 2013-04-30 04:50:00 I still have a few customers running Win2000 & even Dos6 !!!:p

Cough

I do too, run them that is. When I booted up the old W2K box a week or two ago, the first things to appear after it went on line were some security alerts and updates so there is still a small measure of MS support out there for it, despite its age. Myself, when I update from XP it will be to W7 Pro or Ultimate, depending on what is available on TM at the time. All going well, DOS 6.11 will go on via a virtual machine, as may W98.

Cheers

1339016 2013-04-30 05:15:00 Doubt it. If they actually get Mir running, and that's a big if, like KDE, GNOME have ignored Mir and are going for Wayland. Does not bode well for Ubuntu's ecosystem.

Also, whats wrong with running DotA2 with WINE?

Yeah I dunno why they have to "go against the grain" so much either, seems rather counterproductive.

I'd run it under WINE if it worked, or even whatever Cedega became (GamingTree something something?) but it doesn't seem to work :-/

1339017 2013-04-30 05:20:00 For the benefit of 1101, a lot of people using XP do not have old machines....blah blah

Most XP PC's out there ARE actually old. Just the way it is. Not many buying new XP PC's any more.
I get to see alot of XP PC's in my job. Most are 5+ years old, thats old in PC years. ie 3 generations old.

Well, 1101 uses XP on his work PC & is happy with it , all the work pc's are Xp.
1101 only upgraded his home XP PC this year & only because the XP PC started getting hardware issues.
1101 didnt say there was anything wrong with XP. 1101 was untill this year a big XP fanboy (till he finally succumbed to Win7 )

That's why I changed to Xubuntu. Got sick of that Unity rubbish real fast.

Tried cinnamon? Lovely UI, pretty fast and stable as well. Though Xfce is notably quicker.

Yeah, but I didn't like it much. I like Xfce: simple and snappy, no fluff and rubbish. Feels a lot like XP.

I doubt they will accomplish anything. Wayland has been in development for 5 years now, and it's barely there.

Platinum rating? Should work?

One doubts that Xfce will support Ubuntu with Mir in the coming future.

For that matter NVIDIA and AMD won't either.

Xfce still needs to improve a little in my mind, the UI still looks a little clunky.
