1339525 2013-05-03 10:42:00 I have a older Symbian and I get all the country maps downloaded for free offline use. I was just reading about the Lumia 800's user manual and it says Nokia Map requires a internet connection. That true and what about Nokia Drive? Just out of interest, lucky I have a Symbian then ...

Cheers.

1339527 2013-05-03 11:03:00 On my HTC Trophy (which is also Windows Phone 7.5/7.8), Bing Maps does require an internet connection. But it appears that Nokia Drive does work in offline mode, at least v2.0 does (which may or may not work on WP7.5). pcuser42 (130)

I've got the Lumia 800 with W7.5. I've never really worried about using Nokia Drive offline as the GPS assist speeds up the location fix at the start or when a sat signal is lost. Once a strong sat signal is received the unit seems to use that so there's no data costs involved.

The references to internet connection are more for downloading maps when and as you need them e.g. visiting overseas countries, download those maps in advance.

Nokia Drive works quite well, with one big exception and that's the map updates from NAVTEQ. Over 9 months ago, I pointed out to them some major errors via their on line facility and they remain unchanged as far as updating the phone maps is concerned. (They've altered the online version, but haven't made the correction available to the phone). So, Nokia Drive will show a 60kph limit on the Ellerslie Panmure Highway when it is in fact 50 kph ... beware especially of the speed camera between the Shell Station and St John's Ambulance ;)
