231283 2004-04-22 21:53:00 Yesterday I bought a reference CD (Atlas of New Zealand, if it matters). It's not very recent - 1997, I think. Unlike just about every other program I've ever seen, there's no option when installing for loading everything on to my hard drive, ie I have to insert the CD every time I want to use it.

Is there a simple way of doing this myself?

231284 2004-04-22 22:08:00 I've used Alcohol 120% in Windows and wouldnt hesitate to recommend it. Sadly it does cost....

However, there is Daemon Tools which is a free alternative Im told does the job nicely also :-)

231285 2004-04-22 22:31:00 Create a "virtual" cd drive and then make an "ISO" of your CD. All you have to do is "mount" your iso into your virtual drive and all should be fine.
A virtual drive program , win9x version (www.snapfiles.com) or Win2000 XP version (www.snapfiles.com)

Cheers

231288 2004-04-24 02:43:00 Monopoly is safedisk protected and Monopoly Tycoon is SecuROM protected (www.makeabackup.com), go figure. KingWave (5517)
231289 2004-04-24 04:49:00 pffft. all of the games I own are copy protected.

i wonder if alcohol52% will work...
Megaman (344)
231290 2004-04-24 05:15:00 Alcohol 120 doesn't cost if you keep the trial version, which won't allow you to make any more images past a certain time, but will retain the virtual drive

231291 2004-04-24 05:28:00 ok. i have now installed alcohol52% (I have no CD writer, and thus have no need for alcohol120%)

but now i have 5 drives in my computer

A- floppy (needed... just :p)

C- Windows
D- H/D partition (needed)
E- CD-ROM (52x, needed)

i need those drives, but now I have

Z- Other virtual Drive- Not Alcohol

How can I get fid of Z drive? It's a virtual CD-ROM drive. I've un-installed the "driver" for it, but now what?

help

231292 2004-04-24 05:39:00 I would suggest that the Z drive is the Alcohol Virtual Drive.

Right click it and see if there is an option to 'Mount Image'

You have to create the image first though!
