| 231105 | 2004-04-22 06:09:00 | As much as i resent the need of having to explain myself over imagined slurs by somebody who has the arrogance to tell me what my best interest are. All systems sold by me have a full anti-virus program on them and spybot installed, updated and the homepage locked down.Firefox is also installed as the default browser, all os's are updated with the latest patches I go to great length to tell customers the importance of anti-spyware programs and the need to have an up to date anti-virus program running. I also reglery install spybot and avg on nearly every computer i9 work on whether its part of the original work order or not. Still, its impossible to steer those in the right direction who won't listen,if they surf dodgy sites, install everything they see,and spread their email address around then none of these programs will help at all. The majority of people who get dialers have clicked on a FREE ACCESS button on a porn site. |

One particularly difficult one to remove is hot_nz I got her to look in network connections, but there was no sign of it. Ominous sign? She is downloading AVG as we speak. |

| 231109 | 2004-04-22 06:14:00 | As Jim noted not all apear in the network connections, have a quick look in add/remove and see if its in there. Some also go into a folder called "dialers",cant remeber if that shows up under program files or in windows. If its a nasty one its probally made a footprint in windows folder,in the reg and various other places. |

| 231110 | 2004-04-22 06:20:00 | It is a matter of accepting responsibility for your own actions rather then blame someone else. It is not easy to get a dialer installed, they don't just jump onto your sysyem. You have to go to a particular type of site and even then it is necessary to agree or accept something before the dialer will be installed. If people are going to click on anything that appears in front of them without considering what they are doing or reading the conditions then they only have themselves to blame. |

Sure . But that is not the issue at hand . Let's not start a debate as to who is to blame . Thank you to all who provided helpful advise . If anyone ahs anymore advise that relates to the problem originally posted then it would be much appreciated . Any other discussion could be perhaps started in another thread? |

And thank your lucky stars it was only $20 |
