2004-04-25 00:17:00 | I am using Award BIOS 4.51, which doesn't support my >32Gb harddrive. i was thinking of upgrading it to prevent problems with my drive. Has anyone done this? I have heard that it might be dangerous if not done properly, is this true? | plzhelpmenow (5507) | |
2004-04-25 00:28:00 | Yes, I number of things can go wrong. The biggest being a power cut while updating. Still, a BIOS update is cheaper then buying a new IDE controller so it is a cost vs risk decision. Just ensure you have the correct BIOS for your motherboard and a DOS boot disk, read ALL instructions carefully and you have a good chance of success.

2004-04-25 00:39:00 | Where can I get one of these upgrades and how much would this usually cost?(can i get it for free possibly?) | plzhelpmenow (5507) | |
2004-04-25 00:56:00 | most bios updates, like most other updates are usually free - so no worries there. about where to get them? well generally you will need to get one off the motherboard manufacturer, not the bios manufacturer.

Have a look here: www.pcmech.com It might be a good idea to have a look at the info that acompanies the new BIOS as flashing the BIOS may not allow you to use larger HDD's. |

2004-04-25 06:55:00 | I don't know why people claim bios updates are dangerous and evil. They are so simple to do, and the odds of actually stuffing it up are the odds of winning lotto. | PoWa (203) | |
2004-04-25 06:57:00 | don't say that to someone who just won lotto and bought a computer that needs a bios upgrade............ :D | agent_24 (4330) | |
