2004-04-24 05:37:00 | Does anybody use a program called 'Registry First Aid'? The advertisement for a trial download came up after I had run a PC Pitstop test session. The trial indicates that I have a lot of clutter in my registry, which seems correct as it refers to programs or utilities I have used in the past. So it seems as though I definitely need a registry clean up. However RFA won't do the job for me unless I now buy it! ($NZ39.95). What are others doing, Is RFA good value, or are there better programs out there? Cheers Richard

2004-04-24 05:54:00 | I bought Registry First Aid some time ago for use with Win98SE. My opinion about it is that it is pretty good, and does a better job than the free ones such as Toniarts EasyClean. However most cleaners will get rid of the bulk of the junk that builds up. I like it because of the information it provides. The registry cleaner in Norton System Works just tells you that there are 'x' number of errors. Whether it is worth the NZ $40 I dont know, that would be an individual choice.

2004-04-24 08:27:00 | I find RegCleaner 4.3 by Jouni Vuorio very useful. It's freeware, but since it's no longer officially available you'll need to do a search to find a copy somewhere... | Duck (5449) | |
2004-04-24 09:54:00 | The forum has a FAQ on the Registry which has several recommended registry cleaners listed (link to FAQs top right of this page - FAQs take a while to load so be patient). I find EasyCleaner and RegSeeker to do the job nicely for me but I do make sure that I study what it is going to delete before the stuff gets deleted. It is also wise to ensure that the program is set to backup the files first.

I don't know whether build 780 was the last build released free - someone else might be able to answer that. RegCleaner has now been superceded by RegSupreme which requires a paid licence from jv16.org but a 30-day free trial version can be downloaded. |
