231603 2004-04-23 13:33:00 I am in the middle of trying to upgrade my puter and one thing is not going as smoothly as I would like.

I have just upgraded to:-

1GB PC400 Memory (2x512MB)
Athlon XP 2600
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Motherboard

The problem I am having is that on bootup it is only displaying as 1150MHz. (arrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh)

I have searched gigabyte, web etc and have not been able to solve the problem.

Can anyone help me with this.

The CLK_SW is set to auto and display in the BIOS at 400Mhz.
The CLK_RATIO is also set to auto. I have tried setting it to various options as per the manual, but the CPU speed as reported on startup doesn't change.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

231604 2004-04-23 20:04:00 Just remember that the 2600 on the AMD processor doesn't mean a thing.
From memory I would say you are about right.
Go into your bios settings and see what your FSB is set to. With your processor if should be 133. You could be running at 100.

231605 2004-04-23 21:32:00 Jack,

Thanks for that.

However bootup is now only reporting 2000 +.
Easy Tune is only reporting the processor running at 1531.

So although a slight increase I still do not believe the problem is totally resolved.

May have to wait till Monday when I speak to my supplier.

231606 2004-04-23 22:51:00 I too have an AMD 2600+ on the same board with 2 x 512 ddr400 RAM. It says it is a 2600+ on boot-up.

My processor runs at 2.09GHZ.

There was another thread on this - with clock speeds and multipliers lately - you could search, or if you like I can check what all my settings are and we can compare?

231607 2004-04-23 23:11:00 I needed something to do to get me out of helping round the home, so here goes :)

The CLK_Ratio is set with 5 and 6 set to 'on' = 10.5 x multiplier (page 14 of the manual)

The CLK_SW is 'on'

BIOS shows fsb set at 200MHz - resulting freq is 400MHz (200 x 10.5 = 2100)

Here are some pics of the system set up for you.

231609 2004-04-24 00:25:00 lol... You really wanted to get out of helping round home didnt you? Shaun Minfie (2961)
231610 2004-04-24 02:34:00 I "dusted".

It involved taking my PC apart, cleaning all the dust from within, removing fans completely and cleaning, tidying up the cables in it so it looks good, re-arranging the PCI cards and have just put it all back together and it STILL WORKS (lol)!

Hmmm, the washing has been done, so has the vacuuming and dishes ... we have fairies!!!!!

Did the settings work for you?
