| 231599 | 2004-04-23 12:01:00 | I am a novice trying to install a removable HDD. I have a green light on the cradle showing (I think) that the HDD is connected to the PC correctly. After a reboot of the PC I go into Computer Management Device manager and ask the sytem to scan for new harware etc and then into Disk Management and ask it to rescan - but it doesn't detect the new HDD - please advise. | 231602 | 2004-04-23 12:41:00 | I did one of those some months back - seemed to work fine. The green light probably just shows the power is on, not necessarily that the computer can see the disk. Seemingly it can't. I suppose you are using a USB cradle. Win XP should recognise this and install appropriate software - otherwise you should have had a driver CD come with the cradle. Just plugged mine in a few minutes ago, Win XP 20GB Seagate already formatted and USB1 slot, although the cradle supports USB2. Win Xp said it installed USB hardware and then the disk showed up in my computer. I vaguely remember there might have been something to do to get it working intially, but it wasn't hard and has worked 100% ever since. What operating system (OS) do you have, Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP etc? Win XP can make this sort of thing much easier. Ultimately you have to have everything compatible. Did you make sure the HDD was properly installed in the cradle? the power light won't necessarily show this. |
