231621 2004-04-24 02:35:00 Yeah, I checked on that last night. We got the Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 board. None of the packaging, or manual said exactly what revision it was either, but I used aida32 and found it was the Revision 2 version and the BIOS is up to date because its running the FC version.

I looked on their site, and yes the Revision 1 Pro2 board had problems with temperatures, but I don't think this board has that problem.

231622 2004-04-24 04:35:00 Eh, you should see my Athlon XP 2000. It reaches about 70 something and just shuts down, which is about every 30 minutes. The VIA motherboard doesnt support the halt command or something, so the cpu does not idle.

I think it is the ram failing at that temperature, because my other computer just shut off, then had a ram failure or something, and the ram was reduced to 32mb from 256mb. I cleaned the dust off from the fan, because it looked like it couldnt breathe, then, next day it worked fine.

Cheap ram I think was the problem for me, Wintec or somthing, so you never know, my problem could be your problem. Doubt it though.

231623 2004-04-24 04:48:00 Wow, your system runs hot! With a few case fans, the Athlon shouldn't reach over 50 degrees... my Thoroughbred 2000+ hits 49 degrees o/c'd to 1.8GHz with 2 intake and 5 exhaust fans. Put in several case fans and it should lower the CPU temperature to a better level. wintertide (1306)

gives a run-down on cpu die temperatures and actual Mhz ratings for AMD processors. Hopefully it will prove to be some use at a later date :D

231627 2004-04-25 00:52:00 2 intake and 5 exhaust fans eh? where do you get one of those........? agent_24 (4330)
231628 2004-04-25 01:29:00 It's an iCute case with a dual fan PSU and a clear side window (one intake right there on the window) with a PCI slot exhaust fan... I also consider the PSU fans as exhaust fans (because they are).

Here's a pic of it. (www.sal.neoburn.net)

231629 2004-04-25 01:32:00 Read the thread P4 or AMD. You will see that your amd can't be that hot.
Must ve imagination. :D

231630 2004-04-25 02:14:00 Your motherboard sensor probe may be out by a few degrees (or even more - my one was out by 10 degrees when I got it but I had that fixed), but put in a couple of case fans anyways to lower the temperature of your processor and keep the computer off the floor so the fans don't get clogged up as much. wintertide (1306)
