2004-04-24 09:13:00 | Whenever I attempt to play some 3D games on my computer they will get to the main menu then the whole system will lockup (but the reset button still works). not all 3D games will do this. the two that do (freespace 2 and prince of persia 3D) run fine in my other computer if i stick the GeForce 2 in that one. the one in question Does have an Onboard video card but that is disabled in device manager. this system is basically the same as when i bought it, just the motherboard is different. also, the games ran fine on the old motherboard when i had the geforce 2 in. (the old motherboard got broken) this problem is really pissing me off because it refuses to load the games I most want to play. (and the onboard thing is too laggy for most of them) if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. thanks. | agent_24 (4330) | |
2004-04-24 09:43:00 | What OS are you running. I only ask this on the offchance you might have installed xp which will load a very basic generic driver for a geforce 2 card driver which will cause it to crash in 3d apps. | the highlander (245) | |

2004-04-24 10:01:00 | i am using the latest drivers, Direct X 9b, windows XP, and i have disabled the onboard as much as i can (the only option being to select which VGA device takes priority, onboard or PCI. | agent_24 (4330) | |
2004-04-24 10:02:00 | the card is PCI, and the wattage of PSU is about 250w or so. | agent_24 (4330) | |
2004-04-24 10:09:00 | Update: I have just installed the sims and that game works fine . (the problem may lie in the way the games use the video card or something)

2004-04-24 10:17:00 | im pretty sure the games need direct X because both of them have it listed in the system requirements. also, the windows is a clean install on a totally different harddrive.
