231967 2004-04-25 06:47:00 In this day and age the false assumption that "anyone" can and should build their own PC,The truth as i see it is do not attempt to do so unless you already have the skill and ability to troubleshoot or fix the system.

Its all fine and well if with a dose of good luck you manage to get a system that boots right off the bat, runs stable and doesn't have temperture problems, but judging from the posts i see in here they are unstable, running hot and will probally continue to be crap systems for their entire lifetime.

Not to mention the 5 weekly threads where people ask why their cpu's are running at the wrong speed...

After all this these people are stuck with a pc with problems but no way of sorting them out becvause they purchased parts only, and lacking the ability to build the thing correctly they can't iron out its kinks either.Recent threads in this forum attest to that.

One more thing,Can all you budding system builders please switch to Intel gear?,Your efforts are making AMD look bad.

231968 2004-04-25 06:58:00 This springs to mind.....

“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime”

Maybe they should introduce a quota on 'fishing' using AMD equipment?

There is a lot of satisfaction gained from building your own system, and even if you stuff it up there is arguably more satisfaction gained from 'fixing' your own mistakes (called trial and error), with the help of the friendly folk here at PF1.

I am a noob in this forum. I am sure you have seen my post about AMD clock speeds. But I feel that your comment at the end of that post was un necessary.

231970 2004-04-25 07:18:00 I have built three now from scratch and only had problems with the last one I did. And this was due to the ram not being compatible with the MB even though both said they were. Two brands later and no problems.

You do need to know a little bit about things of course. The same would apply to someone building a new shed from scratch. If you didn't have any building skills then the shed would most likely not be much good for anything.

Actually I wonder how many of those 5 weekly threads with cpu's running at the wrong speeds where sourced from a "professional" assembler ;\

231972 2004-04-25 07:34:00 Don't worry about metla there mr_rix. This forum is served by all sorts and types and while they may come across a little rough at times you will find that generally they are good and helpful people. Sometimes it does get a little "annoying" replying to the same questions continuously.
I have read your post and that is a puzzling one for me but someone will soon come up with some ideas.

Self built computers are a hell of a lot of fun and is still the best way to LEARN about PC's. Hell I wouldn't have my job now if I hadn't started dismantling and then rebuilding my computer. I have built one so far from scratch and loved it although luckily I had another standing by so I could come to here and sort out a few little "glitches" I am currently in the planning stage for my ultimate machine and hope to make a start in about a month. I will even be dabbling into case modding on the beast also as that is something I have seen and always wanted to try. I'm still deciding whether to mod a standard style case or get a little different and create a totally different case. I have seen one that was made up to be the USS Enterprise (aircraft carrier) and that got me thinking. I actually have an old Stereo Amp here that is no good but the case does offer some interesting possibilities, or I do have 2 drawers on my desk here that just hold junk. Imagine a PC built into your desk drawers so all that can be seen is the desk and monitor. A bit of hinging and springs and I could have an LCD screen that disappears down into the desk also. Ok that has me thinking more now time to go and start redrawing some bits.
