231960 2004-04-25 06:10:00 Hey Ya'll

My home built system:

AMD 2800+
512 MB DDR
128MB FX 5200
80GB 7200rpm
ASUS A7V600 (Via KT600 chipset)

When I first installed the processor it was running at the speed of a XP 2000+ (1667mhz). When I select it to run at 2083 (speed of a XP 2800+) the system boots up fine but after a period of time (anywhere from 10 mintues for 10 hours) locks up & I have to go into the BIOS and put the speed back down to 1667mhz. This is not a tempature issue runs at around 40C (average for this processor is 50C).

Any ideas on why is crashes?

231961 2004-04-25 06:28:00 What speed of DDR RAM do you have? If you've got DDR266, then that could cause some problems... wintertide (1306)

What fsb and multiplier have you set? (In BIOS or by switch on your M/B))

231964 2004-04-25 07:54:00 The problem here is it could be any component in your system, from cpu to psu to motherboard to harddrive to ram to....

If your satisfied that everything is assembled correctly then its a matter of troubleshooting the components,do you have access to any known-good-parts?,i realise this is a big ask to most people...but its the best way to identify a faulty component.

Otherwise run a ram tester, run a harddrive diagnostic utility, try another psu even if an upderpowered one is all you can get your hands on...

Have you looked in the log file to see if windows has hit a snag just before the crash?

(think bottlenecking)
What temps?
