2004-04-25 05:18:00 | Here's my system specs: mb=ABit NF7-S v2.0 cpu=2500+ barton core ram=512mb 3200 ddr 400 hdd=Seagate Baracuta 80G SATA V/Card=MSI FX5200 128mb ddr I'm trying to install the SATA drive as the primary but everytime I do the WinXP Pro install it goes as follows: When I get to the "press f6" I load the drivers disk that was supplied with the board. Then I partition and format the drive. The settup program installs the files and reboots. But after reboot I get and error message that says no hdd or something. I've discovered heaps of other ppl with the same problem as mine and it's seems to be something to do with the bios for the onboard SATA controler. From what I've read installing a modded bios posted here will fix the problem but it dosen't work for me: forum.abit-usa.com Anyone else have a similar problem with this board or have any suggestions...please?

2004-04-25 08:09:00 | My advise is to stick to Abits offical bios, those ones are modded ones and may cause more problems. This is the link www.abit-usa.com It says something about SATA hdd boot issues being fixed. I have had no experience with SATA hdd so can't help you

2004-04-25 08:21:00 | i had the same problem. Try taking out your old harddrive then install SATA harddrive and windows then make your old harddrive slave and put it back in your computer. it worked for me. hope this helps

2004-04-25 21:53:00 | i have pretty much exactly the same set up except for the video card. when you say "The settup program installs the files and reboots." do you mean XP pro sets up or the sata drivers set up? i had the same prob but once i had pushed f6 to install raid or scsi drivers and then loaded the sata drivers off the disk it was fine. Once you have formated and partitioned maybe you should restart with XP cd and load drivers again because you might have formated over them?? Budda

2004-04-27 03:40:00 | tech_meister : that bois insn't for my board...but I have updated to the latest version for my board which does mention a "fix for SATA not being detected when a usb mouse is installed"...so thinking that may be the problem I updated to that bios and connected a ps2 mouse instead just in case but still no luck. BootyLicious: The SATA drive is the only one I have installed (no IDE drives installed) and I have installed the SATA drivers when prompted by the windows settup...that allowed the settup routine to see the drive and for me to partition and format it...then windows copies the installation files and reboot's ...that when it turns to crap...it just boots from the cd again and starts the whole settup routine over again and again and again...I've let this loop continue three times, each time installing the SATA drivers when prompted..only to be faced with having to do it all over again at reboot. Budda: read what I have above...I load them again and again and again and...and well...you get the picture. Here's what I have posted on the Atomic Forums: There are two options to enable or disable in bois to do with SATA.(besides the boot sequence of course which I have set to 1=cdrom and 2=SATA) Option one is the SATA controller Option two is the Raid controller. If I enable both the Raid bois takes over at boot and I'm told I don't have enough hdd's for this (obviously as it's reffering to a raid settup and I only have one SATA installed)and if I bomb out of that and continue to load the winsettup I get the error about no suitable media for insallation. So I have to disable the raid but leave the SATA controller enabled. Only then can I start the windows settup routine..which goes smoothly up to the point where it restarts after copying the settup files (including the SATA drivers from the floppy I was prompted for) After restart the settup routine does everything over again..and again and again...if I keep persisting. Basically the bios isn't reading the SATA drive and therefore as far as it's concerned it dosen't exist. Any way I got fedup with that so I stuck my normal IDE drive back in (loaded with winXP pro) whilst still having the SATA plugged in and installed the SATA drivers in windows...so now I have it installed as a secondary drive...not exactly what I want but at least I don't have a papper wait. Seems to be no way for me to have the single SATA as a primary master :((( Best I can do is have it as a secondary(at least it's not a papper weight)...This will do for now...in the meantime I am emailing the supplier to see what can be done..as from what I've read on the net most work eventually and some just don't.

2004-04-27 05:01:00 | do you have the BIOS set to boot from SCSI/SATA instead of HDD? | Pete O'Neil (250) | |
2004-04-27 05:31:00 | Yes... I have tried with boot sequence: 1=cdrom, 2=SATA, 3=diabled, boot other devices=enabled SATA controller=enabled RAID controller=disabled Also the above boot sequence with... SATA controller=enabled RAID controller=enabled and the above boot sequence with... SATA controller=disabled RAID controller=disabled I have also tried with boot sequence: 1=SATA, 2=disabled, 3=disabled, boot other devices=enabled(to boot from cd) SATA controller=enabled RAID controller=disabled Also the above boot sequence with... | 231937 | 2004-04-27 05:36:00 | Ok this seems very odd, from memory is'nt the SATA controller and RAID controller one in the same? Im guessing your probably gonna need to have both the SATA and RAID controller's enabled. Have u looked in the RAID BIOS for anything that may help? Is there an option to boot from SCSI? I know in alot of other mobos that dont have the option to boot to SCSI this is the option used. | Pete O'Neil (250) | |
2004-04-27 05:38:00 | I have also tried all of the above configurations with the SATA cable plugged into the second port on the mb just incase as some ppl on the web have stated that that worked for them.....Nada :((( | dchip (1426) | |
2004-04-27 06:07:00 | Yes they are both controlled by the onboard SATA RAID controller chip. In the bios under "Intergrated peripherials"(spelling?)there are two otions that pertain to SATA they are: SATA controller enable/disable RAID controller enable/disable Using any of the above boot sequences with the "RAID controller" set to "enable" result in the RAID bios kicking in at startup...there is nothing in the raid bios that pertains to a single SATA drive....It only has options for raid settup or repair(stripped or mirrored set)...and no matter what I choose I get an error stated "not enough install medium"...(because you need two hdd's for anything raid) The only way to get to the winsettup at all is to have the "RAID controller" (the second option) disabled whilst having the "SATA controller" enabled. As for SCSI devices..yes there is an option for that...it is in the boot sequence options..but in those same options is the option for "SATA"...so that is what I use....but I will try the "SCSI" option now and let you know the result.
