232220 2004-04-26 12:17:00 Infact if you do a search for ecs on that site it brings up numerous articles about sales figures and market share, seems Asus and ecs have swapped the lead quite a number of times, and that the Asustek brand motherboards were designed soley for the purpose of competing with ECS,pity the asustek boards had such poor performance. metla (154)
232221 2004-04-26 12:27:00 whoopps, meant to say the asrock brand of motherboards were released soley to compete with ECS,and compete they have.

Latest figures(june 2003) i could find have asus well ahead of ecs.

No luck finding more current figures.

Although i find it interesting that gigabyte sales lag so far behind.

Interesting fact #456232

ECS make a large amount of ibooks.who would have thunk it?

232222 2004-04-26 12:45:00 PcCo. (RIP).

Anyone wonder why someone wants to sell a high spec second hand laptop? Thats cos it probably has problems of its own that the owner can't fix.

OMG I defamed the laptop... sue me!

232223 2004-04-26 23:51:00 Just wanted to say "thanks" everyone :-)

Guess I'm back to square 1!!! I'm basically after a laptop that I can email photos, modify photos, burn music, play dvd's a bonus, and general wordprocessing.

Later on, I'd look at possibly using an external dvd. Was told to get a 512Meg, 40gb spec machine. What is all the other guff I should be looking for, for what I need...? i.e. MHz, video card, etc!!!

Would a P3 of some sort be suitable for my computing needs?

Appreciate your advice once again :-)

232224 2004-04-27 05:56:00 New one ok? Or do you specify for second hand, as theyre cheaper? ~~~~~ s y ~~~~~ (2054)
232225 2004-04-27 10:14:00 I am limited by funds - and a partner who is not prepared to spend more than $2000.00 on a laptop. Desktops seem to be priced almost the same as some laptops with the same specs.

At this stage a laptop suits our needs.

Maybe I'm expecting a little too much, but I have there are some deals on trade me that seem rather enticing - (I almost feel guilty saying that!!! Like it's some taboo!!!!). Thought perhaps I could get away with spending about $800 on a good PIII that suited my computing needs, but maybe this is unrealistic, or possibly ridiculous - I have no idea!!!

I'll keep looking. Thanks again :o)

That I would have to disagree heavily on. One does not have to buy HP and the likes. Looking at my search back a few weeks ago... I was completely put off by laptops when I found they were about 3 times more than normal computers! I conclusion... dont buy them unless, a) the company pays :D or b) you absolutely need them

Sorry I'm on a rush.. will comment more later

232227 2004-04-27 10:35:00 Plus the fact that laptops with the same specs as desktops still don't perform anywhere near as well.

I was very disaponted to set up an asus laptop with a 2.8 p4 in her,and she was crawling along at a pace far slower then i had expected, far slower then what i was used to anyway, and all my personal com,ps have less powerful cpu's.

For 2 grand you could get yourself a nice desktop,120g harddrives,good video card,dvd writer,nice set of speakers,512mb ram.........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...... ....
