232064 2004-04-25 23:38:00 Judging by the number of locked posts recently, I should imagine Bruce's wand would be used to shut the whole kit and caboodle down. ;\ ;\ Chris Randal (521)

Thats a good one. Aren't there any experts on the staff of PCWorld then?

I know how . . . . . . . YOU pay for this site .
This site costs ME nothing, I like it that way . I learn heaps, I enjoy a bit of a laugh, and sometimes get involved in discussions that go waaayyyyy off track .

Good value I say, even the slowness is tolerable .

232069 2004-04-26 08:14:00 I find the home page really slow to load. Most of the other pages are fast. I have been playing around with forums softare on my server and it takes it a while to load. Its because it has to build the pages as it goes, it doesn't have any set code. dwnz2003 (5250)

PC World's massive staff of four people (journalists, not programmers) spend their working week producing PC World (and FFWD), the magazines. Funnily enough, it's a full time job.

We have an IT department that is responsible for the company's technical infrastructure, which includes setting up and maintaining the web sites from a technical point of view. This massive pool of IT staffers, numbering a whopping three people, supports the PCs of close to 60 people, all the servers and IT infrastructure, and all the Internet related infrastructure. Within all that PressF1 is not such a huge priority that they can just drop other stuff they are doing and rejig PressF1 -- unless it becomes totally braindead, as the previous version did.

PressF1 will undoubtably get some attention in due course, but it is just one of many things the IT department has to work on, and bitching about it won't speed that process up. Like most IT staffers they tend to get a tad grumpy when people pester them with repeated requests to do things without stopping to think that they might actually be working to a process already.

So we wait, zen-like, contemplating the beauty that exists in those seconds (or minutes) of mental silence between when you click a link and the page loads. Feel your inner calm.

so very true .

Although to be a total 2 faced weener head, you can get rid of the falsh ads a few ways .

the way I do it, is to use firefox & get the "adblock" plugin .

you can stop all sorts of stuff that way . I beieve you still D/l the ads, but you dont waste cycles displaying them . . . . .

there are other ways as well . . .
