231940 2004-04-27 07:43:00 Ok, dchip sorry about that link before,it looks the correct link but seems to go to the wrong webpage?..dunno

Looking at the manuel Abit provide, this is the
way I would set the bios up, dunno if you have used these settings before, so If you have ignore me

SATA CONROLLER= ENABLED

HDD BOOT SEQUENCE=
FLOPPY DRIVE
HDD-0
CDROM
BOOT FROM OTHER DEVICES= ENABLED

I think the SATA option is only for when you have a raid set up, I could be wrong though,and just load the SATA drivers when you push F6
All should work hopefully
good luck.

231941 2004-04-27 12:15:00 nps mate....not sure if I've actually tried that one....but I will and let you know how I get on. dchip (1426)
231942 2004-04-28 00:24:00 No luck I'm affraid :(( dchip (1426)
231943 2004-04-28 07:38:00 It certainly seems as though you know what you are doing, going by what you have done so far.....so I would say at this stage there must be something wrong with the m/b. Your supplier must be your next plan
they are the ones responsible for making sure it works as it should and if it is a buggy bios and a lot of them have got this fault then the supplier really has got a problem

231944 2004-04-28 23:51:00 Thanks all for your time and effort :).....still waiting for a response from the supplier...:(( dchip (1426)
231945 2004-04-29 13:08:00 No worries.
Keep us informed on how you get on with
the supplier :)

231946 2005-06-01 08:16:00 Here's my system specs:

mb=ABit NF7-S v2 . 0
cpu=2500+ barton core
ram=512mb 3200 ddr 400
hdd=Seagate Baracuta 80G SATA
V/Card=MSI FX5200 128mb ddr

I'm trying to install the SATA drive as the primary but everytime I do the WinXP Pro install it goes as follows:

When I get to the "press f6" I load the drivers disk that was supplied with the board .
Then I partition and format the drive .
The settup program installs the files and reboots .

But after reboot I get and error message that says no hdd or something .

I've discovered heaps of other ppl with the same problem as mine and it's seems to be something to do with the bios for the onboard SATA controler .

From what I've read installing a modded bios posted here will fix the problem but it dosen't work for me:
. abit-usa . com/showthread . php?threadid=33981&perpage=15&pagenumber=1" target="_blank">forum . abit-usa . com

Anyone else have a similar problem with this board or have any suggestions . . . please?

Hi!

I know this topic is older than a year and i've got the same borad and a same problem, but i think i have solved the case! :thumbs:

only 1 Sata HDD in the system, no modded bios or extras needed .

try this:
before Xp install setup the bios:

Boot sequence 1st: CDROM 2nd:HDD-0
SATA controller=enabled
RAID controller=enabled

insert XP-CD and begin xp-install, when comes up press F6 - and load Sata-raid driver sil3112r for xp from floppy when asked . come the usualy xp-install process> particion, format, etc . . copy files, restart, and now don't you press any key (for boot up CD), than must load XP graphic install from Sata Drive . That's all .

My system work fine with 2500+@3200+ & Maxtor 80Gb Sata (alone in sata1)

Good luck! :thumbs:

231947 2005-09-29 14:21:00 Hi everyone,

I've just solved a boot problem on my NF7-S 2.0 while trying to install W2K on a SATA drive. First off, to eliminate other reasons, I had only the SATA drive (SATA channel 0) and the CD-ROM (Secondary IDE Master) hooked up.

W2K install from CD went well, hit F6 to install SATA driver etc., copied files to SATA HDD. Then, the HDD wouldn't be recognized during the next boot, despite the fact that I had set "First boot device: SATA" and enabled the SATA contoller etc.

The trick was to not only enable the SATA controller, but also to enable the BOOT SATA RAID ROM option in the bios. My incorrect assumption was that you only activate the SATA RAID ROM option if you want to do maintenance on your RAID array, and since I only had a single HDD, I wasn't needing it. However, enabling the SATA RAID ROM option is what makes the SATA drives available for booting, too! You don't need to enter the RAID config (it says to hit Ctrl-S if you want it). Just enable SATA RAID ROM, and now windows boots just fine from the SATA HDD. No driver updates or bios updates were necessary.

Hope this helps a few frustrated NF7-S folks...
