232692 2004-04-28 05:35:00 Hi All

I have been running a two PC network through ASDL router for three months with no problems.

This morning I ran ad aware and not sure if it is related but when I restarted my PC I got an error headed `Mobile device properties' `The TCP/IP network transport is not installed' Click OK - nothing happens.

I have also lost my e-mail and internet from that machine, the task manager also now shows the processor running at 100% with no applications open but other than being slow the machine works fine.

I spent 2 hours on phone to ISP help and tried uninstall TCP/IP, Reinstalling, uninstall network card, reinstall still nothing.

ISP say sorry how about reinstalling the OS from scratch...this seems a bit drastic, particularly as my CD writer is on the other machine, so I can't back up without seeing the network.

I have a techo booked with an external CD writer for tomorrow night, but was wondering if anyone had some ideas I could try first.

Thanks in advance

Regards

232693 2004-04-28 05:46:00 Have you tried reverting the changes made by Ad-Aware?

Try this:
Click Start
Run
type in:
command

now type:
ipconfig /all

Post back with the output from both PC's, Im curious....

232694 2004-04-28 05:54:00 Thanks Chill.

I was actually doing that as you spoke, I have now rolled back three clean ups back (which includes one from January) and wa la, I'm back in business.

Now we also did this while chatting to the nice man at the ISP and re booted the machine a number of times.

Now while I am pleased to be back I am more confused than ever.

Ad aware told me I have about 140 naughty files (not THAT naughty), but which ones do I remove?

PS Ran the config and got all the addresses I would expect to see - 192.168.1.1 etc

232695 2004-04-28 07:53:00 Hop over to Safer Networking (www.safer-networking.org/) and get a copy of Spybot S&E. Set it up it in advanced mode to get all the options.
