2004-04-27 03:01:00 | I am a woosh user at 2 sights and both have slowed to a crawl in the last couple of weeks. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? I never have had great speed (I changed one from jetstart and woosh seems no faster) but dial up is quicker at the moment TIA | kiwitwat (4646) | |
2004-04-27 03:03:00 | Do a search on the forum for Woosh and you will find that others are not particularly impressed either. | Susan B (19) | |

2004-04-27 04:56:00 | Um, I know I've let a few cheeky usernames pass lately, but "kiwitwat" is probably a bit much. I'd ask that you re-register with a new one please, as per this section of our rules: 2) No offensive language or user names (phonetic spellings included). I don't need to spell this out, just use common sense -- this isn't an adult-only forum. Yes, I know there's one or too others out there but some parts of the anatomy just aren't fair game for user names.

2004-04-27 05:29:00 | Sorry about the name. It took 2.18 minutes to download this page from Mt Eden. My home is in Grey Lynn and it's just as slow | kiwibits (5574) | |
2004-04-27 05:39:00 | In isolation, I suppose the new name is better. Bearing in mind the previous version, especially in this post, it is dodgy but I suppose we have to keep our sense of humour sometimes. robo. PS Would be interested with other feedback on Woosh. Also interested in hassle factor for getting it going, as impression I get is that you are on your own with small networks (ie get a PC to be a router/bridge).

2004-04-27 06:04:00 | I havent actually heard anything good about woosh to be honest.. there are alternatives you know.. there's wired country and nzwireless.co.nz Right now I'm on nzwireless and I'm loving it.. low gaming pings, fast browsing and downloading and the best thing of all - NO data caps. I guess all that woosh really has in its favour is coverage

Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me? I never have had great speed (I changed one from jetstart and woosh seems no faster) but dial up is quicker at the moment TIA Do you use the same user login at both sites?? I'd do a speedtest here (homepages.paradise.net.nz), and check what speeds your connection is running at. Every month or so, the woosh people decide to drop me to half speed (120k~). First time I rung them every day for a week to see if they'd get it fixed. Then at the end of the week, I said I was going back to Jetstream, and it was pretty much fixed after that (250k again). Everything fine for a month, then just a week ago, it happened again! Half speed grrr. I rung them up the next day, and told them the problem and noted that if it wasn't fixed the next day I was going back to Jetstream. He got me to do a speedtest right there and then, and bamm! Up to 250k again. Amazing. 2mins before the call it was at half speed. I'd wager a bet that they have a little button and can put people up to normal speed at their discretion. I wonder why they slow people down in the first place. Annoys the hell out of me, but I know how to sort them out if they try it again. > PS Would be interested with other feedback on Woosh. Also interested in hassle factor for getting it going, as impression I get is that you are on your own with small networks (ie get a PC to be a router/bridge). Getting it working was a bit of a bother. They say it takes 10mins or whatever, nup it takes well over an hour or longer as everythings new to you, then you have to wander the house looking for where you can get a good signal, if any. The signal is only available in one part of my house, and thats actually on the opposite side of the direction of the main repeater. I've found that you definitely need a router+switch solution for maximum reliabilty. Sharing between computers using ICS is a big no-no, way too clumsy. The D-Link DI-704P router that I use is pretty easy to set up, but has troubles with connecting to woosh at times. You have to unplug it, then turn it back on to make the connection. It has a 'connect' button but that does absolutely nothing. If I had to buy another one, I'd probably try a linksys WiFi G router and be completely wireless. At the moment we've got ethernet cables running everywhere. Last night the service supposedly went down from 11pm to 4am for upgrades or something, but they notified users of it by email which is nice for a change. The plan is supposedly "unlimited" but I've consistantly exceeded the limit, up to 29Gb one month, and have been doing that for about 3months now. No phone call as of yet. But I'm beyond the point of caring. I'd quit this thing in a heartbeat if a better deal from telecon arised. Woosh now have a new plan ut for only $55 for new customers only, I'm thinking of quiting and signing up for that. $10 a month saving. |
