| 232530 | 2004-05-01 11:39:00 | a site survey is free, installation cost is normally about $150 but if you know what you're doing they'll let you skip that, but they wont guarantee any level of service quality if you DIY (It's not hard if you know the general area of the AP and know how to use netstumbler and ping) On top of that you've got the cost for the antenna - between 50 to 80 bucks, and a "modem" for about 200. You can buy your own access equipment, any bridge or AP with an external antenna jack should get you going... It can potentially be quite a costly setup, it can potentially be quite a cheap setup.. it's really up to you As for dropouts - never. It was going slow for a day or so, that was when our AP was struck by lightning. As our AP is on Somes Island in the middle of Wellington Harbour (or should I say, Port Nicholson) it took them a day or so to get out there and fix it |
