| 233000 | 2004-04-29 12:57:00 | Hey guys, me again. I want to upgrade now while the exchange rates are where there are, and was looking at getting a FX5700 pro. Specifically the Winfast 360 TDH 256MB model with the 128bit memory. Is this a good enoough card to go with? I read somewhere that some cards use slower clocks or chipsets or something until the prices level out. Will new cards have the fast chipsets in them? Also, do I need an FX5700? Will a 5600 do ok? Anything wrong with WinFast cards? Anything I need to look out for regarding VIVO? Also, is it worth getting a SATA hdd? I thought that speeds were as fast or maginally faster than IDE. My new mobo is an ASUS A7V600 with two SATA outputs. Am I gonna get a considerable speed boost? Cheers. .Hamstar |

As to whether its a good card to go with? That depends entirely on how much moollaa, what your expectations are, and what its replacing. Don't touch a FX5600. As for winfast, I had an Asus g4ti, and a winfast g4ti, i sold the Asus, Still using the winfast card. |

Get a Gigabyte Radeon 9600xt for $312, that will match the 5700ultra and you won't have hardly any problems with it. Watching dvds/divx and playing games is horrible with nvidia cards, you have to always adjust the gamma and brightness as its never properly tuned. Radeon works correctly out of the box. |

I think a Google search will reveal all the problems some people have with upgrading the Catalyst drivers... so to suggest that "you won't have hardly any problems with it" might be a bit on the generous side. > Watching dvds/divx and playing games is horrible with > nvidia cards, you have to always adjust the gamma and > brightness as its never properly tuned. | 233007 | 2004-04-30 09:27:00 | Well you might have problems, but you'd have to be a bit retarded to screw something that simple up. > So it's a simple case of "plug and play" eh? No mucking around at all? Yep pretty much, install some codecs and you're away. No stuffing round in the display properties adjusting overlay settings so you can see the picture, and then find that when you finally can see the picture its all the wrong colours. |

| 233009 | 2004-04-30 10:08:00 | Hmm... what kind of NVidia card were you using? My GeForce FX 5600 plays all types of movies and DVDs with no overlay settings change and they look fine! | wintertide (1306) | ||
