2004-04-29 03:24:00 | On my motherboard, just above the cpu are several flat pieces of metal arranged in a square. What are they? there's nothing attached to them? I thought they could be something to do with the cooling system, but they only get slightly luke warm. Would someone satisfy my curiosity? Jack

2004-04-29 03:46:00 | i would guess its either shelding or a heatsink. | robsonde (120) | |
2004-04-29 03:54:00 | Doesn't the heat sink go under the cpu? These are above it. That is looking at it from the side. | JJJJJ (528) | |
2004-04-29 05:12:00 | There can be a heatsink on any component that generates heat,Motherboards can have a few,or even little bitty fans.... The cpu is plugged into the motherboard and has a heatsink mounted on top of it,Not much luck of having a heatsink "under" the cpu.

2004-04-29 05:25:00 | Yes Metla you are right. I must have been standing on my head. Anyway I have the cpu with sink and fan on top of it. But just above that as you look at it in the box there are 16 strips of metal. 4 rows of 4. about 2 inches high. They are not attached to anything and are just sticking up out of the m/b. What are they there for. At the moment they are just luke warm. Jack
