232961 2004-04-29 09:46:00 Has anyone had any joy sharing an Internet connection with a Woosh modem? Connected via USB to an XP PC and works fine - but can't get it to share with a Win2k PC.
Realise can be done with a router but want the USB option as well if possible.
Cheers

232962 2004-04-29 10:50:00 Its possible but extremely messy and probably unreliable. Router is the way to go really.

But if you want to try, look for enabling internet connection sharing on the XP pc. Other than that you'd have to get some ICS experts to help you because I refuse to waste my time with something so hideous ;)

If you have the Woosh software installed on both computers can you not simply change the unit into which the modem is plugged?

232964 2006-01-08 22:53:00 Hey there, Im having the same problem.
I have a desktop machine running XP PRO connected to woosh through a USB modem. What I would like to do it set up a network that will allow me to share the internet connection with 2 wireless laptops around the house (also running XP but home edition). I know a wireless router will be needed but am unsure of any specifications required! So can anyone recommened me a router or list of routers that could do the trick? And also, how would the setup work or look like? I know with a normal ASDL modem, you could hook it straight up to a router and then run from router to PC's but seeing as the woosh modem is USB... just wondering how it would all tie together! ie how would you connect the modem to the router? are there routers out there that are compatible with USB modems and therefore would solve this problem?

Any help greatly appreciated!!

232965 2006-01-08 23:10:00 Something like this (www.edencomputers.co.nz)

Not too sure how this connects, it might connect to the lan port. On the desktop, and it'll also act as a router / access point and wireless print server.

I would say you'll need something with an access point on it, to get a decent signal.

232966 2006-01-08 23:54:00 Woosh set is unlike any "regular" broadband connection: the antenna / modem unit is connected directed by a USB cable to the PC, and special "dialling" software is installed.

Actually rodb advice may be the best way to "share" the hardware.

You may be able to get Windows Internet Sharing to work, but again the Woosh set up is proprietary so I suspect it won't work.

232967 2006-01-09 00:04:00 In my stupidity I ran one PC off USB and the other off Ethernet, connecting to Jetstream - except for the odd occasion, we could both use it the same time. We could not share files on the PC's but we could both connect the same time. Problems only appeared with heavy Jetstream traffic - then only one of the two could get on, but any one of the two. What did we do - nothing except install it on USB/Ethernet as described.
