233404 2004-05-01 03:54:00 I am still very confused about how to convert VHS to VCD.
1) I even don,t know if my system meet the requirement !
2) What sort of the hardware Do I need ?
3) What sort of software do I need to record VHS to the
computer than convert to VCD?
Please can any one help me !

My system: P4.2.8g. 80g hd . 1x 120g external USB hd. 1g memory. Asus P4C800 deluxe motherboard. G/force FX5600 video card with S-video input.

Thanks.

233405 2004-05-01 04:57:00 Hi China,

I too am wondering how I go about converting my 140 F1 VHS videos to DVD :)

I have just rebuilt my PC with specs similar to yours. I have a WinFast TV2000 XP Expert card.

I have connected my VCR into the card and am playing around with different programmes to see "what is what" :)

I think I have figured out how to capture off the TV card - writing it to a DVD is another matter.

I shall await the correct answers in due course :)

It does.As long as it has video in

A video card with video in,or a tv-capture card

You need a capture program, just like a media player but with a record button,if you card has video in then it will either have installed one when you loaded the drivers or there will be one on the drivers cd.

READ THE MANUAL.

You can then use nero to encode the captured file and author it to vcd,

Your system is more than adequate .

You only need a Video Capture Card, or a Video Input on your Video Card .

You say your Video Card has a SVHS Video Input on it .
Did you get a special lead with the card (it has 2 - SVHS and 2 - RCA plugs on it?) Read the card manual to figure it out .
What [b]outputs[b] does your tape player have?? RCA? SVHS?

Its as simple as matching the tape player video OUTPUT to the Video Card INPUT and the tape player audio OUTPUT to the sound card INPUT with appropriate cables .

As we cannot see what you have, its hard to tell you exactly what leads you need . However, most (but not all) Video cards I have seen with Video In and an "SVHS" socket actually use a special lead that breaks out to RCA and SVHS . If a special lead is needed it would have been supplied with the card . All cards are different so there is no absolute rule, many don't actually have Video In, only Video Out (which is also SVHS) . You previously said yours does has Video In however so we proceed on that basis .

Assuming you have the special short lead that gives all the RCA In / Out and VHS In / Out sockets, I suggest using RCA to RCA cable connection between the Tape Player and the Video In .

This is because very few tape players actually have VHS Out . Most do have RCA .

Then you need a lead for the Audio .
Most sound cards use 3 . 5mm Stereo plug for Line In . Therefore you need a 3 . 5mm to RCA plug Stereo cable . But only you can see your equipment and read your manuals, so check these before you get the cables .

Then you play the tape . Then you Record the program through InterVideo WinCoder . That should create an mpg file on your HDD . Its this that you burn to DVD or VCD, but get the recording sorted first .

We covered that last time, and you said you already had InterVideo Software . There are several programs in the Intervideo Suite, you should use InterVideo WinCoder if you have it .

You could have continued the last thread, to make it easier for people?
