233161 2004-04-30 12:12:00 Hi
I've been overclocking my rusty ol' gf2mx, and it seems that I've pushed it too far as my pro winxp crashed and after restarting, a popup msg says "Windows have recovered from a critical error" or something simliar...

But anywayz, after that, I've been experiencing many wierd problems, and these include:
- Being prompt to connnect to the internet because some program wants to get information for a website (there are ~3 different website it wants to go)
- 54 random *.exe files showed up in my C: (i.e zoxrqpgt.exe, kwuekskl.exe)
- My Norton anti-virus 2001 won't live-update saying it cannot connect to the net. (I've scanned all drives with 4/7/04 definitions and found nothing)
- My norton anti-virus 2001 won't enable auto-protect at start-up, I have to enable it manually.
- I can't reach anti-virus websites such as www.symantec.com or www.mcafee.com or www.avg.com etc (website now found)
- At one stage, a msg said something like "restart denied", and I had to disconnect from net in order to restart.
- I've ran adaware and also spybot, and removed everything, but no improvements.

I think I've tried everything to fix it....but no success, would any of you folkes have any ideas?
Thanks.

233162 2004-04-30 12:28:00 sounds like a virus.

i would use a friends computer to get a copy of spybot, and a copy of AVG free anti-virus.

233163 2004-04-30 13:40:00 NAV 2K1 probably won't support internet updating anymore as I imagine your subscription ran out some time ago.

Try Stinger (vil.nai.com) which is free, small and picks up a number of common viruses.

Listing the places it's trying to access may be of some help too.
