233084 2004-04-30 05:17:00 Well...

Ive gone and resigned to using Windows XP on my Laptop (I couldnt get the inbuilt Web-cam to go in Linux, and aside from that my clients keep wanting me to try out Windows apps for them etc. etc.).

I'll be using my Desktop (Gentoo Linux) as my Primary PC because of this, but the way I see it is this:
If Im going to use it, I want it to work as much as I expect as possible

So, first thing to go:
The butt ugly GUI

So far this is my Desktop:
sal.neoburn.net
sal.neoburn.net

This is using Windows Blinds, IconPackager, and the ReactOS shell.

Are there other Shells / Theme managers etc out there?

233086 2004-04-30 05:33:00 If you read the post you'll see I am using WindowsBlinds already.. Ive been using it for Years!

Thanks though :-)

Any other ideas? I like the idea of Shell Replacement. This ReactOS one (www.sky.franken.de) is speedy as (Way faster than any Windows Explorer Ive ever seen) but isnt complete sadly :-(

Cheers

233087 2004-04-30 05:41:00 is shell replacement a stable option though? I mean, isn't it a bit risky? static reanimated (5575)
233088 2004-04-30 05:43:00 No, not at all!

Ive found the ReactOS shell to be more stable than the stock Windows explorer shell...

My only gripe is that its not complete yet. If it were, then it would be a fully functional, speedy, compatible replacement!!!

Im not too interested in LiteStep from what Ive seen though, but Im sure there are others.

Any ideas on a Shell Replacement for starters?

Ive google'd a little but would like recommendations etc before I go on a download-fest.

233090 2004-05-01 12:06:00 I tried Serenade (majorgeeks.com) last year. It's a small, if not somewhat confusing to get used to at first, but it seemed alright. agent (30)
233091 2004-05-03 01:10:00 Ive been to astonshell.com and found the love of my life ;-)

I just wish it didnt use the standard explorer.exe for file-managing, but had its own.. Oh well, you win some and you lose some....

I'll post a screeny shortly :-)
