233657	2004-05-02 08:14:00	Hi, I'm trying to connect a new RTA220 to my network via a 8 port switch but can't seem to contact it. So this leads to a couple of questions: 1- should it be connected to the switch via a cross over cable or a straight through cable, 2- is there anything else that I need to check is ok if I still cant seem to ping it...Do I need to do anything to the switch? thanks, Nic	nicnz (2273)
233658	2004-05-02 08:27:00	I'd say a crossover cable to connect with the switch... Your going to have to fiddle round in the router settings and likely forward traffic and such like. Sorry I can't be much more help. Its an interesting thing to be doing though and I'd be interested to know how you get it going.	PoWa (203)
233659	2004-05-02 08:47:00	Hi, well I figured out what the problem was after i sat down and thought about it for more than 5s. I hadn't yet changed my ip from the standard base 192.168.0.* to the range 192.168.1.* which the router uses - so it wasn't letting get into the settings or accepting pings. As for the cable, it uses a straight through cable... Now all I have to wait for is telecom to patch me into the network... The lady on the phone said something about having to plug me in - but I suspect it's more a technician simply typing a few commands into a computer... thanks, Nic	nicnz (2273)
233660	2004-05-02 09:12:00	And your computer works when its plugged into any of the ports on the switch? Sounds pretty easy to do, I thought it'd be a bit more complex. Maybe thats for router-router connecting.	PoWa (203)
233661	2004-05-02 10:15:00	Yep the routetr has an uplink port which you connect to the uplink on the switch with a straight through and same with any PC/client from any of the other swtches (auto sensing) ports. Cheers Murray P	Murray P (44)
