| 233589 | 2004-05-03 02:24:00 | I received a txt message early this morning from a friend of a friend telling me to sign a petition. I was immediately skeptical because I'd received a txt about a week earlier about telecom offering $5 txting for the next month if you "sent on this txt to 12 other people" (I rang telecom who confirmed that was a hoax). I spoke with a Telecom rep who basically informed me that it would take effect as of next month (500 txt's for $10). That's 16 txt's a day which will still save me an arm and a leg. I'll be calling *333 to find out more though as mentioned earlier. Telecom have always made it known that the $10 txting would be reviewed in Dec 2004, so I dont see what the surprise was. They havent put you on a contract for $10 txting for the next 5 years have they, so why the shock? 500 txt's is still a lot.. 16 a day (Which can be done in a matter of minutes, but still). This also prevents people from abusing the service and sending thousands of txt messages a month (I did 2,500 txt's my first month with telecom) and degrading network performance. Overall, if its really worth that much to you, pick up a 2nd phone for $200 (The cheap nokia model comes to mind) and have two phones, save $$ like that. I figure that when I was on Vodafone I would spend $120 per month on txt msgs alone. $120 x 5 txt's per $ = 600 txt's. It cost me $150ish to upgrade to a new phone (New phone minus money received from sale of old phone). Ive had a Telecom phone since around October and I figure Ive saved hundreds if not thousands because of it. Look on the bright side, at least you're not paying 20c for every txt msg you send! </rant> Chill. |

| 233590 | 2004-05-04 10:28:00 | There was an article in the Dominion Post today (front cover) and the telecom rep said that this was happening because of the abuse (ie ppl bombarding others with txt messages) . The highest txt user sent 27, 000 txt's a month! Although that could be one of the reasons, I don't beileve that it is the sole reason that the deal has changed . >Telecom have always made it known that the $10 txting would be reviewed in Dec 2004 . . . Not to me! (being a telecom customer) > . . . so I dont see what the surprise was . They havent put you on a contract for $10 txting for the next 5 years have they, so why the shock? The shock, simply because Telecom didn't inform me . How hard would it be for Telecom to send out a txt to every customer? As a customer I feel betrayed and uninformed . I'm sure that Telecom don't want their customers to feel this way . But as you say, rather 500 txt's a month than paying the (grossly overpriced) 20c per txt . (500 txt's / $10 = $0 . 02 per txt) |
