233913 2004-05-03 08:31:00 I found this info on another site and was wondering if it works???
not that i need it as mozilla is working fast enuf .

Im presuming this is for IE??????

Speed Up Page Loading

* Minimize This Window (Click the (-) sign at the top right) .
* Right Click MY COMPUTER .
* Click On PROPERTIES .
* Select DEVICE MANAGER .
* Click on the + sign next to the "Ports (Com & LPT)" entry .
* Double-Click COMMUNICATIONS PORT .
* Click on the "Ports Settings Tab" .
* Change the Bits Per Second to the highest possible setting .
* Close then restore the window by clicking it's name on the bottom task bar .

You should find that your loading speed has greatly increased .

NOTE: If you have problems connecting to your ISP after making these changes (the speed may be too great) lower the setting one setting lower each time until you can connect with no problem .

This should increase your page loading time in communities, and make pages load in a flash outside of communities .

Great for dial-up modems .

233914 2004-05-03 08:49:00 i have see this in the past...

it wont work on all systems and it only makes a very small speed incress on most systems.

this is for any browser in windows.

the workings of it is that a lot of systems have the port speed set to 56K which is the same speed of the modem, problem is that most modems will compress data and can give a lot more speed than 56k on some data, if the data is compressed then the data rate can be much higher than 56K and so the com port will be a bottleneck. by pushing the com port speed up you will remove the bottleneck.

some systems that have WinModens dont have the setting and so it can't be changed.

i dont know what the default setting is sorry.

233917 2004-05-03 09:28:00 its nothing to do with browsers.

its best to have the port speed faster than what the modem can do (which is default on most pc's). not only due to hardware compression but i find if doing something cpu intencive for a short time the modem still downloads a bit and will send it to your pc/app at a larger speed.

yes they do. however its not a real serial port and serial overclocking dosn't work.

btw for those with real modems (external serial) you can overclock the serial ports tho i cannot see the point of doing so.
