2004-05-03 08:10:00 | Hello, I recently upgraded to xp pro. I have "enjoyed" all the usual re-adjustments. tow are pretty wierd though... the most disturbing is that when I launch internet explorer and go to read my mail... it takes 26 seconds for express to launch!! any clues?? the second may be more disturbing.. should I right click on any window the usual window pops up.. but when I scroll either up or down the highlight "locks" on to the "send to" for a few seconds.... !! I have done all the usual setting checks and have even reinstalled the ie6 and oe.. There has been no difference.. it is the 26.7 seconds sitting infront of the monitor that is getting to me immiediatley.. your great insights would be greatly apprieciated..

2004-05-03 09:18:00 | hello and welcome. ok so what CPU and RAM are you running? XP needs a lot of grunt to get the job done. you say you upgraded? from what? did you install XP fresh or upgrade it over the top of windows 98 / ME?? upgrade is often a bad way to get to XP. you might be better off be backing up you files and formating then installing XP from clean.

2004-05-03 10:12:00 | Robsonde and beetle ty for your replies I upgraded from xp home * long story.. she got the pc I got my hard drive!! she got the xphome cd !! All was running well till I decided to purchase my own o/s cd As I am doing the A+ core cert this year I figured the xppro was more useful to me in the long term. I am running a intel celeron 2.ghz with 224 meg of ram on a 60 gig hd.. I dont do much in the way of media files just study and correspondence. I do use yahoo chat for comms with family overseas * we send family pics back and forth) I have a zonelabs pro ( use the cache clearer several times a month)firewall, have tested it and do so frequently with GRI leakteast.. I also use spy sweeper for traceprograms and cookies and advanced system optimiser to clear and sort my registries. I am getting no sense out of microsoft help and all my updates are .. well upto date!

2004-05-03 14:19:00 | I see you dont use MS Messenger so you should disable it with a small script you can find here (www.petri.co.il) (I am talking about the third method). Also if you view your contacts in OE this will slow down the opening time. I have done both of these small changes and my OE works in an instant. Rob ;\

2004-05-03 19:49:00 | Thankyou ... Rob99 (and others for willingness and suggestions) method three works like a treat * ah happiness*!! B-) looking into the other options....(by the by) ;\ IN method one, (I do not have Outlook installed) windows messenger is not an available option in my "Express" "tools" in the second method, for Express, I ran the "gpedit" with no result and I have no selection under "tools" called "other"? in the third method all went sweet as a nut and , well,... happiness ..ahhhhh :D

2004-05-03 20:43:00 | whilst on the subject of method two.. the gpedit.msc command is , I understand, a feature only in xppro. I used it to sort out my internet speed with the qs packet scheduler.. got a 7kbs improvement instantly!! (I have a 56k modem)
