| 233873 | 2004-05-03 06:47:00 | On my system I have two CD-rom drives. A samsung cdrw and a LG 52x CD-Rom. The LG CR-Rom has been giving me problems of late. While using, it seems to hang, then after I remove the disk from the drive, the CD-Rom disapears from 'My Computer'. I have no access to it through any of my other programs either. If I reset the computer, it still does not appear back. But If I shut-down the pc, then turn it back on after a rest (overnight), the drive magically reappears back on 'My Computer' when I boot up. I have done a good search on the web and found heaps of advice for cd-roms that dissapear permantly but nothing really regarding my problem. I'm running XP home with up to date virus and spyware protection. Is there anyway to test the cd-rom connection without opening my box? Any other help or advice would be appreciated. Mantis |

I actually don't think it is a cable though, because windows should detect it as new hardware each time you boot up if it has shown it's intermittent connection problem during a session . It could be a master slave thing but, why now . You could try downloading new drivers/firmware, uninstalling from Control Panel > Add/Remove Hardware then applying the new drivers/firmware when window detects it as new hardware . Follow the manufacturers intructions for updating the device . Cheers Murray P |
