233814 2004-05-03 04:05:00 I have an 80gb hard drive which, with the updated fdisk, I managed to partition. I then tried to format the partitions but it failed.
After trying other things I deleted the partitions and tried to redo them with fdisk. I now get a failure on the 'Verify disk' which occurs before the partitioning so I can't re-partition it
Also nothing happens when I start a format after partitioning, using the XP setup disk. My hard drive is obviously corrupted somehow..What can I do?....Help! Arjay

233815 2004-05-03 04:42:00 you might want to get a hold of a HDD diagnostic utility, like Norotn Diagnosics that will run in DOS. Jams (1051)
233816 2004-05-03 04:54:00 IBM give away a disk testing progranmme, and one to clear the first few tracks (where the format/partition/FAT/etc stuff lives) so the disk looks like a new one. Look here for zap.exe (service.boulder.ibm.com). Graham L (2)
233817 2004-05-03 05:51:00 Looks like I need something like ZAP.EXE GrahamL, but unfortunately IBM say that they don't have it and I can't find it anywhere else. Any other suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks...Arjay

233818 2004-05-03 06:10:00 have a search for kill disk. it should wipe everything off the disk.

then use the manafactures program for testing and setting up the drive.

233819 2004-05-03 06:37:00 What is the brand of hard drive? Seagate (seatools) here (www.seagate.com) or WesternDigital (diagnostic and lifeguard) here (support.wdc.com) Pheonix (280)
