| 233866 | 2004-05-11 00:08:00 | Personally I avoid any method of video-head cleaning that involves physical contact with the heads, especially those using cottonwool buds . I have used cleaning tapes (the wet type) with success, and they are good for the non-technical type who doesn't want to take off covers etc, but I prefer to use a head cleaning spray . I recommend CRC Video Head Cleaner (DSE Cat No . N1057) in preference to electrical contact cleaners, and remember to always allow the heads to dry and return to room temperature before inserting a videotape or it may get munged . Aerosol sprays temporarily leave solvent residue, and also propellant evaporation cools the head drum causing slower evaporation of the cleaning solvent and/or frosting in extreme cases . Both effects disappear completely after 5 minutes in a normally heated room, or longer in cool weather so be patient, the sound of a video tape wrapping around the head drum is not something you ever want to hear . :( I know, I've heard it . :_| Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 233868 | 2005-02-10 03:49:00 | I know it mite be a loved thing, but with the prices being sooo low....i purchased a vcr from dse last year for a very small $69.95.....mite be time to look into a new one.. and i wouldnt recommend touching insides with no expertise..take it to a local repairer, ask swhats wrong, if he says oh this and that, it'd cost under twenty bucks then fine fix it....rather than risking it and buy a new one, unless u go down that route anyway.. |
