233944 2004-05-03 11:01:00 Hi,

As some of you might know, I am dual-booting with WinXP pro and Win98 .

Whenever I install new hardware, such as Firewire card, or scanner, or printer etc etc, I install it into WinXP .

When I boot into Win98, it doesn't finish loading up, because it's got these alerts popping up asking something like 'we have identified new hardware, click here to install it' (or words to that effect) . I don't want to install it into Win98 (only use that for gaming), how do I get win98 to stop looking for new hardware, at startup? And wanting to install the drivers for it?

Thanks,
caffy

233945 2004-05-03 11:55:00 try this
once booted up and its failed to find those devices or more accurately the drivers for those devices, go to device manager and any device that has a yellow exclaimation mark on it, right click choose properties then at the bottom of that window you will see "disable in this profile" put a check mark in there. That will disable win98 autodetecting that device each time it boots
