2004-05-04 14:34:00 | Hi one & all! :-) I have a machine with 98 SE on it, AMD K6 450MHz 3D CPU ( :O ), NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 vid card, 416 MB of RAM (yes I know it won't see it all, but I didn't know that at the time, and I can't use it on my other machine!! :8} ), er, need anything else?? My problem is that on boot up I get the message "Rundll32 has performed an illegal operation". Clicking on the "Details" button will give me way too much for my little brain cell, but it does talk of "Stack dumps" and things (a full copy can be posted if required!?!? :-) ). But then, as if not to be out done, after I click "OK', bloody Explorer decides to do exactlly the same thing ("Perform an illegal operation...", again details can be posted if required!). ?:| Got me stumped! But then again....!! :D Any ideas or pointers would be much appreciated. Regards, The Cell :^O

2004-05-04 22:59:00 | theres a fair few reasons for the rundll error. does it do it if you boot to safe mode ? >416 MB of RAM (yes I know it won't see it all, ???? why won't it see it all. i've got several old ss7 boards running with 300-512meg ram in them.

2004-05-11 08:16:00 | Hadn't thought of safe mode!!! :_| Will try it! As for RAM, I was under the impression that 98 SE didn't see any more than 256 MB! Itwould be good to find out that the rest of it was being used!! :D Regards, The Cell PS Not checked this site too quickly incase of any thing 'Sassy' turning up!! :)

Well, that's an interesting ( not to say mind-boggling) idea... And even if it WAS true, didn't you read that those of us on 98SE weren't at risk from that particular nasty? It was the swept-up-to-date machines it hit. |

2004-05-11 11:38:00 | actually win 98 and ME can "see" past 384mb. when talking "virtuall memory" it's something different. although you can have some fun with pagefile.sys I do say though, don't play with it. :)

2004-05-11 11:52:00 | sorry typo uh can was ment to be can't. talking physical page adressing vs virtuall. and the limitations of the OS mentioned - of course without tripple checking. :)

2004-05-11 12:51:00 | Microsoft say it can, but can strike problems after 512MB here (support.microsoft.com) | Pheonix (280) | |
2004-05-13 15:37:00 | Sorry Laura, forgot to mention that I tend to surf on my (now completely patched) XP machine! Perhaps I should have used my 98 machine to check this site out, but it wasn't a life or death situation and I was using my keyboard on a mates computer to get his computer 'repaired' from the Sassy beast!! Regards, The Cell :D
