234445 2004-05-04 12:58:00 I'm having all sorts of trouble with my computer. Its got to the stage now were is pretty much unusable.

windows xp
p4 2.8
512 ram
120 gig hard drive

It was working fine on saturday night. I started it up sunday morning and within about 10 mins it restarted itself. So i checked the event viewer (save dump - computer has restarted from a bug check) no worries its done it a couple of times in the last 6 months. Then it does it again and again and then all sorts of other stuff like clicking on a folder or web page goes straight back to the desk top or causes a reboot.
So the first thing i think is virus check on google and see theres a new worm about .So i try and update norton and run a scan but it wont do either.Next i uninstall norton and install nod32 it updates and scans and finds nothing. I download the sasser removal tool it finds nothing.
Ok I've had enough of this ,I've got a ghost image of my C drive from 3 weeks ago.I chuck that on but theres no improvement ,still applications crashing ,intermittent rebooting ,corrupt data and the blue screen.
Time to reformat and clean install ,but while setup is copying files I keep getting errors that files failed to copy and eventually it crashes to the blue screen. I tried 2 different windows cds on 2 different drives twice with the same result every time. I even tried Xandros but only got to loading modules then it froze.
So I figure it must be hardware failure.

If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears (sorry for the drawn out explanation).

234447 2004-05-04 13:12:00 If its not self built and is under warrenty get the shop you purchased it off to look at it, I know that it has been said in this forum, that opening the case will not invalidate your warrenty but a little knowledge can be harm full.
It sounds like a Hardware fault to me.
If you are hardware savvey and know about anti static straps, check the ram is seated and well as cpu etc also do a search of the forum for ram testing software once found download and use it you may find you have a faulty stick.
