| 234256 | 2004-05-04 09:19:00 | Hi For some reason I can no longer 'delete' any file on my computer! When I either right mouse click or click 'Delete' on the menu on the left (Windows XP) or when using the delete button, I get the same response:- "Cannot delete (selected file): Cannot find the specified path". Can anyone help pse? Tks Lance Tebbutt |

| 234258 | 2004-05-04 09:48:00 | That may also confuse, as while it's probably correct as to cause (corrupt recycle bin), you will be unable to "boot to DOS" as required to correct it. XP does not have any real DOS. I would suggest trying to empty the recycle bin first, and if that is unsuccessful or does not allow the operation, perform a system file check. Start - Run - sfc /scannow. Note the space between sfc and /scannow. You may need to insert your XP CD, unless its a preinstalled version in which case the files that may be needed are already on the hard drive. |

| 234264 | 2004-05-10 05:59:00 | How about renaming the files then try and delete them? If that doesn't work you could try using a registry cleaning program . See the forum's Registry FAQ (link top right of this page) . Note that the FAQs take a while to load . |

Hi Lance I don't have XP at present, but it shouldn't be too different to W2K, therefore I am confused by the second two delete options you mention. Ordinarily I would locate the unwanted file in Exlorer, right-click and select delete. I also delete successfully from the "open" file window in any program. There are no pathing issues (that I am aware of) in those functions because the delete instruction is being delivered directly to the file itself, though hopefully somebody will correct this if I am wrong. Can you explain a little more clearly what is is you are doing, and what the history of the problem is. For example it helps to know what things you may have done in the past that could have corrupted a file somewhere, or if it started after an update or some other action. Cheers Billy 8-{) |
