234169 2004-05-04 04:01:00 Greetings,

Im wanting to convert a Word Doc (Or PDF for that matter, Gotta love OpenOffice.org exporting to PDF files :-)) to an Image File format (Of whatever type) and then use Irfanview to convert this document into .pcx format.

Just want it black and white.... Im wanting to fax it off with some software I've got a Trial of :-)

Any idea's?

Cheers

234170 2004-05-04 05:15:00 Quick 'n dirty:

Print screen>paste into image editor>crop>save in preferred format.

234171 2004-05-04 06:10:00 psssst - if you use XP it has a built in fax program (on the CD as additional program) - once installed, from within your document select 'fax' as the printer, enter the number in and away you go.

I had the same idea to start with as you, and ran with it in the end, but wanted to see if there was anything automated that would do it... :-(

Thanks, but I'm wanting to send this fax to about 30 people. Ive got the software to send it en-masse (grabbing the phone list from a txt file) but it wants it as a .pcx file :-(

Ah well....

Thanks

234175 2004-05-04 12:43:00 I tried. I use Irfanview so I can convert between any type I like.

However the scanner wasnt giving good results due to a background image, text, and pictures being all on the one page.

I used another app to send from my PC as a Word Doc, and it printed on the test fax machine perfectly fine :-)

234177 2004-05-04 13:51:00 Depending on which printer you have, try enabling the preview in the printer options, and when you print you get a preview before the printer prints, you should be able to save each page as an image. This works for me and I have a HP printer.

234178 2004-05-04 14:47:00 Hi Chill
How about
(1) select all
(2) copy
(3) paste special
(4) chose "picture" option
(5) copy the result (yes this is a second different copy)
(6) paste into irfanview
(7) save as PCX image

I tried it and got a great result.

By choosing (4) above Word says " Inserts the contents of the clipboard as a picture. This format is better than bitmap for printing to high quality printers. Of the format options available, picture occupies the least space on disk and displays the quickest in Word"

Let me know what you think - even if only to say "rubbish". Seems fine to my untutored eye !!
