234288 2004-05-04 12:11:00 I just want to write a message to all the dumbassed people out there who think that turning off their phone between 9am and 8pm will kill telecoms network and make them lose thousands, or that txting "bomb" to your address book within the first 5 mins of 9pm will make them change their mind... It wont, and it annoys me how many people have been so ignorant as to pass them on (Including the same idiots who sent on the text only a week ago about $5 txting for may "...if you send this txt msg on to 12 people").

This should not be a surprise to anybody that Telecom have done this!!!
I knew right from the word go that it was only going to last until Dec '03 when it would be reviewed. I spoke with an insider who informed me that they would be continuing the deal until at least April/May.

May comes round and Telecom have changed (next month) to 500 txt limits. This is both reasonable and a good move from the QoS perspective of Telecoms services.
There have been reports of people sending large amounts of txt's, worth somewhere close to $30,000!!! I know there are people out there who "txt spam" and that racks up huge bills.... This limits those people while still providing the average joe with enough txt's to be happy.

I used to spend $120ish a month on txt messaging when I was with Vodafone. The first month I got my new phone, I send around 2500 txt's and received well over 3,000! I now average around 600 - 650 a month.

Work it out like this:
$10 for 500 txt's
+$20 for another 100
= $30 for my 600 txt's a month

Now, if I were with Vodafone:
600x txt msgs @ 20c ea = $120

Which one seems like the better option for anybody who will be sending over 50 txt's a month???

Why gripe about savings?

If you dont like it, then switch to Vodafone - Nobody is preventing you!

Either way, using Telecom over Vodafone has saved me over a thousand bucks these past several months (This is after the cost of a new phone!), so Im not complaining!

Dont like it? You're not going to bring down telecom by moaning on a public Forum, nor will sending certain txt's at certain times bring down the great Telecommunications Empire. Deal with it.

Chill.

234289 2004-05-04 21:15:00 Pre $10 text I was on one of their txt plans - $34.95 for 250 texts per month. That WAS a good deal at the time. I would only occasssionaly go marginally over that 250. When the $10 texts was introduced Telecom sent me a letter telling me to basically get off this plan asap - no brainer, I did.
I have increased my texting to about 300 per month, I still win.

In the words of the wise one - TINSTAAFL but at least this way everyone can get a bite.

Of course you'd get that right.

If I remember rightly I'm pretty sure you posted a thread asking whether you should send that text on or not.

Which I didn't, you posted in a thread that you had to ring Telecom to confirm it's validity, so you can hardly call the other people stupid.

234294 2004-05-05 02:56:00 Hell yeah.

Last person to send me 2 texts in a single day got a phone call from me telling em if what they had to say wasn't worth making a phone call then to keep it to themselves

234295 2004-05-05 04:50:00 Well 1stly let me say that txt messages are a great innovation, let's face it they are handy . I would say that my only gripe would be that are we such a technology dependant society that we live our lives with the minimal amount of human interaction .

Like Metla said if it ain't worth picking up the phone and saying it to someone then it's probably not worth saying in the 1st place .

What kind of society are we when we fail to recognise the very existance of our fellow human beings by using technology all day every day .

I bet there are some people out there who txt their aging grandparents hello, just cos it's more convenient and a lot less of a hassle than driving down to Timaru to say " Hey nana how you doing?"

Sad to say the least .

Ooops gotta go I received a txt!!! :)

cheers

234296 2004-05-05 06:11:00 If people text more than 500 a month they should take a hard look at their life. I would guess they are @#$% for brains.
Telecom is doing them a favour.

234297 2004-05-05 06:30:00 To me, as I typical teen, (I don't text, my cellphone is only for emergency use) I believe a maximum of 5/6 a day should be plenty. For university students who may have weird timetables, 10 seems fair. Still... 10x31=310 no where near the thousands. Good on Telecom, txt addicted should go for a walk.... ~~~~~ s y ~~~~~ (2054)
