234802 2004-05-06 13:35:00 The big news a few weeks back was the release of nvidia's new card,the card designed purely to get them back on the top of the list after their recent fumbles.

And they delivered,an entire new range of cards that had sites all over the net excited about its performance and image quality,it seemed Nvidia were finally back in the top position.The only downsides seemed to be the size of the cards,the severe power drain of the cards and the millions of dollars nvidia must have spent getting an entire new card on the market.

But the performance was there and that is after all what matters.


Then.............BOOM,reality pie.

ATi have released their next card to the major hardware sites,performance wise its reported to be twice as fast as the 9800pro(whoa!) and comfertably outpaces the nvidia cards.

And the real kicker.....This is still based on the 9700pro chipset.....Seems they have been sitting on the real power in this design since the original card was released,they must have spent pennies compared to nvidas millions,they not only have a card that out performs everything but it has less bulk,runs cooler and has less power requirments.

It certainly seems nvidia failed once again to top ati and it must have cost a huge amount to do so.

Ah well,top end cards are out of my price range anyway.

234803 2004-05-06 13:40:00 Well you're a bit slow off the mark there mate. I was looking at those on Tuesday NZT, pretty much the day it came out.

But beside the new ATI card looks awesome. Just after the ATI release did you see Nvidia released an overclocked version of their FX6800 card which is now a FX6850 or something... lol. Nope sorry Nvidia, you missed the cut! 		KingWave (5517)

Seriously though i read the article on toms hardware when it was published a couple days ago and had been meaning to make a post.

Good to know that you can recommend graphic cards without having actually tried the card. We can all read reviews. Put your money where your mouth is!!!

For me I just use a 5700 card. I don't use serious games like Far cry etc. What I do use in the way of games is MSFlight Sim 2004, Crimson Skies, Links Golf. All of these when I get the time. The Video card cost me around $300

Not all people on PressF1 need fancy video cards do they?

There are Graphic cards on the NZ market that retail around $800NZ or even more.

I am beginning to think that the PressF1 Forum should break into several forums.

This may be worthhwile?

AMD v Intel.
Linux v Windows. Operating systems in general maybe.
nVdia v Anthing else.
Off topic subjects including Fridges, Cows, Woodchippers etc Ad Nuseam.
Gamers.
Spreadsheeters ( and I'm sure I have that wrong.)


Maybe break into whatever.

As for recomendations?

I didnt at any point in that post make a recomendation,once the cards are on the market and depending on price and availability i won't hesitate to make recomendations to those that ask.

You are quite within your rights to post any thread you want. I don't ( in fact ) use Linux or a Wireless Network. I do use Wireless (Broadband) Internet. You won't see me ( as you call it ) jumping into threads and posting nonsence. I post what makes sense to me. I don't know lots about Linux or wireless networks so therefore keep my mouth shut.

You OTOH make little snide comments at the bottom of the thread you posted about ego stroking and spell checkers. I note that I get no thanks for actually agreeing with you on a couple of other threads this evening. I have no reason for "rattling your cage" as you put it.

As I remember it this argument between us started when there was a post on PressF1 about services and who can supply. At that stage you made an attack on my post. I may be wrong here. Please note that I have never tried to take one of your customers off you.

I did not say you did in this thread. Talking about strokes though ( not egos ). It's different strokes for differerent folks.

I think as a Retailer you need to know the product. You need to know if the product will suit the customer.

Uh...no.it wasn't me,i do remember the incident but i suggest you look it up and wake up.

You make posts with no specific point then to attack/knock/rubbish my posts,not only is it weak and pathetic but your not any good at it.
