234664 2004-05-06 05:24:00 This is driving me crazy, I am wanted to play stuff I got off a DVD. It works on the computer that has the DVD player, but the one I want to play it on, does not have one.

I have installed Divx, and InterActual player, neither work.

234665 2004-05-06 05:46:00 When you say 'DVD player' do you mean the DVD-ROM drive??
If so then you won't be able to read a DVD in a CD-ROM/CDRW drive.
If the both PC's have a DVD-ROM drive in them then you need some software to read the DVD.
DivX won't work until you convert the DVD movie into a DivX avi.
InterActual player should work though.
Does it come up with an error?

234666 2004-05-06 05:53:00 The files are not on DVD, i used smartripper, and DVDx to put them to harddrive, and some other whatsit to convert them to mpeg 02. I can not play them, or the extracted vob files on the computer without the DVD-rom.

I thought DivX could play vob files, so I had not tried going to avi.

WMP just lookes for a codec on the website or something, then says error downloading codec, because there is none or something.

234667 2004-05-06 06:04:00 Rip it using DVD Shrink from dvdshrink.org

You can use a plugin then for WinAmp, or VideoLAN Client (Why didnt I think of VLC earlier today?) to play the DVD's.

Then, look into DivX conversion once you've ripped it properly if you're short on HDD space :-)

234668 2004-05-06 06:05:00 Ah that's right I did read your other post about this.

Try media player classic (www.divx-digest.com). That's what I use to view DVD files off a HDD.

234669 2004-05-06 06:39:00 I have other posts about this? oops.

But you still have not explained the fact that they work on one computer, not on the other.

234670 2004-05-06 06:41:00 Are you trying to share the DVD Drive via the network by any chance?

Could you explain a little more by "It works on one but not the other"?

Error messages? Apps used??

I think he means that the same files that were ripped off the DVD are on both computers but he can only play them on the computer with the DVD drive.

234672 2004-05-06 09:56:00 simply install the dvd software that you use on the pc with the dvd drive onto the other pc. tweak'e (174)
234673 2004-05-06 11:05:00 OK. I thought InterActual, or DivX would do it though, thats why I got them. Now I just have to find the disk somewhere.

Thanks
