234522 2004-05-05 23:01:00 Is anyone else having problems with the latest windows hotfix?

We have two computers here whihc have updated and now one of them is so slow its unuseable and the other reboots itself.

Anyone one else had these sorts of problems or knows how to fix?

234523 2004-05-06 02:49:00 Have you checked for the Sasser worm or was that the update you applied. what OS? To a search of the MS Knowledge Base (KB) with the hot fix KB number. Some patches have caused problems on some systems on certain OS's.

234525 2004-05-06 04:33:00 its in windows 2000 and I don't know which hotfix it is.
We have just switched on the auto update on all our PCs yesterday, and have received all the updates at once, so not sure which one would be causing this.

234526 2004-05-06 08:28:00 Go to: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > System Event Viewer and check out any with warnings, Errors and at least those events either side of them. You should also be able to see if any issues arose during the updates to help pinpoint the culprit.

On the computer that reboots itself go to : Control Panel > System > Advanced > and have a look around for something that allows you to log errors and not restart. Sorry I can't be more specific I'm not in windows at the mo and going by memory. Be aware that if you check a memory dump the file could be several MB's, 50MB is not unheard of. You can limit the size and how verbose it is.

If necessary search the MS KB or google for all the fix patch numbers + win 2k.

I generally download each patch as a separate file from Windows Download and load them 1 at a time. That way you can keep a copy (back it up to CD), track errors/bug's, hopefully, and avoid unecessary downloads for your system. Although I do find it handy to manually start Windows Update to scan the system for updates, note them (the ones you want) then head for the win 2k download page.
