234647 2004-05-08 10:43:00 >what about Phpbb or whatever. I finds it really good.

phpbb forums are quite often hacked by brazillian script kiddies and havent really got much of a long term reputation for handling large databases. For smaller sites they're fine. Just lock them down and back them up.

vbulletin is my pick. Many of the MAJOR forums around the internet use vbulletin, so it cant be doing much wrong. If you hang on to your jive database as well, someone with some time and inclination could write an import script so that all your threads and posts from here can be copied straight across. Once they're in vbulletin you can shuffle them into topic forums or just mass move them into an "archives" forum. If you time it right you may be able to have accounts, passwords, profiles etc shuffled across as well. Someone good with databases and scripting should be able to create such a script for a small fee...

After vbulletin, give invision a look: http://www.invisionboard.com
Then phpbb comes into the ranks

234648 2004-05-08 10:51:00 get phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com)

it's free, secure, and you can have more than one forum (seperate forums for computers and off topic)

234649 2004-05-08 11:00:00 whetu: I will explain why phpBB is better than vBullietn an IPB

1. phpBB is free (as in support, software, MODs and templates cost $0. Yes, nothing)

2. phpBB is incredibly easy to use.

3. phpBB is easy to customise (you can install your own templates, and if you have more than one, users can chose which one to use)

4. phpBB 2.2 is coming out :D

www.phpbb.com

"Our users have posted a total of 1010859 articles
We have 119545 registered users"

Not sure how you can suggest that's a "smaller" site. And they're constantly proactive in keeping it secure
