It's a free service, stop expecting the earth from something for which you pay nothing. $10 is hardly going to go very far to cover the cost of hardware/software/bandwidth - even if people did get behind it. |

| 234641 | 2004-05-06 04:42:00 | WTF> We are simply offering assistance of a monetary value, in case that's what IDG are holding off due to funds being lacking (or better spent elsewhere). If 50 people offered, then there's enough for a basic new server :-) Chill. |

| 234642 | 2004-05-06 05:11:00 | Guys guys, it aint a server problem, so a new server isn't at issue. There are various possible causes of the slowness, which are being looked at. It isn't exactly easy to diagnose, and without having a good idea of the root of the problem simply replacing the server might achive little. Personally, I favour replacing Jive with a standard, off the shelf forum package, and not doing major work on the code so that we can continue to apply vendor supplied updates. This would get us extra functionality as well (PMing, post editing etc etc). We're looking at one such package now, and it isn't very expensive. Another suorce of potential problem is the DB and user-login system used. This is also being looked at. I appreciate your frustration at slow downs and brown outs. We are doing our best to get it fixed but it is unlikely to happen overnight. I can only ask for your patience. |
