2004-05-06 11:20:00 | My regular AdAware 'cleanup' gets rid of my having chosen 'about:blank' as my homepage and reverts to the Microsoft default (MSNxtra whatever) I'd rather ditch IE than have it go there ! How do I change the default or do I just have to remember to reset "about:blank" after every AdAware cleanup ? (I'd rather let AdAware get rid of everything it finds (including Alexa) and learn to reset "about:blank" than only selectively remove what it finds ...)

2004-05-06 12:37:00 | It appears adaware detects the change to about blank as a possible threat. If you do not remove this registry value after scanning "about blank" remains as default home page. | 234774 | 2004-05-06 21:01:00 | Can't you put About blank in the ignore list? With ad-aware 6,on the search results page, right click on the file you wish to ignore and select "add selection to ignore list". | johnboy (217) | |
2004-05-06 21:51:00 | I trust you are running Spybot as well as Adaware! If not get it. If you already are, In Advanced Mode, look at the Tools button > IE tweaks > check Lock IE start page and Lock hosts file. All done, happy surfing. The best advice I can give you though, is to get youself a copy of Mozilla or Mozilla Firebird, Opera, etc, and say goodbye to your IE and OE woes. When you must use them, for Windows Update for eg, don't let IE be default when it asks and still apply the blocks in Spybot. There is a setting in Mozilla which allows it to emulate or start IE for pages that require it but, I don't bother personaly. HTH. Cheers Murray P

2004-05-06 21:55:00 | Adaware did it to me as well but after reading Gerry's info about Adaware detecting it as a possible homepage hijack I think that all you need do is just not put the tick in the box (the one that says "Possible browser hijack attempt") to have it dealt with . Or do as Murray says and have Spybot lock your homepage setting .

2004-05-07 11:44:00 | Thanks all - especially Susan B and Gerry On reflection what I guess I was worried about was in case my "about:blank" had somehow been 'infected' with a hijack without changing the name of the homepage, as had happened once before recently Your advice will be heeded, thanks
